About Yasiru Rangana
Yasiru Rangana (full name Yasiru Rangana Kirindearachchi) is an AI Architect and AI Engineer based in Sydney, Australia. He designs AI systems end to end, from models and retrieval to agents, evaluation and infrastructure, and builds them to run in production: LLM applications, RAG and knowledge graphs, multi-agent workflows, and the harnesses around them.
He chooses the platform to fit the problem: managed cloud such as Google Cloud, AWS or Azure when it makes sense, and dedicated GPU infrastructure when cost, latency or data control call for it. He has built and operated GPU servers himself. Most of his time goes into what determines whether AI works in production: grounded answers, evaluation, security and data control, cost and reliability. After more than ten years as a software engineer, he still treats AI work as software engineering first.
Research
He is a doctoral researcher at Western Sydney University, pursuing a PhD on small object detection in fast-moving video. His papers cover computer vision to reduce roadkill (IEEE, ABC 2025) and content-based image retrieval (ICMV 2010). See research.
Open source
He builds open-source tools for AI-assisted development and AI systems, and contributes to projects he uses. He has had code merged into LightRAG and RAG-Anything, and fixes into the FastMCP and Google ADK docs. See open source.
